    Chapter Index

I’ve been able to level with him!

    The game was over quickly.

    I won.

    And, it’s complete!

My father looked at the board and was silent.

On his face, there was no anger, no resignation, only a deep despondency.

    I know, he lost.

    Losing is complete.

    He lost to his son.

    He lost to time.

    He lost to fate.

“You’re strong.” He looked at me and said, with a hint of …… relief in his tone that he didn’t even notice himself?

“Thanks for the compliment father.” I said with a smile.

“I’m old.” He looked at me and said, with a hint of …… sadness in his tone that he didn’t even notice himself?

“Father, you are still young.” I said with a smile.

“No, I’m old.” He shook his head and said, “I’m old.”

He stood up and walked over to the window, looking out at the sunset.

His back looked incredibly forlorn and lonely.

I looked at his back with mixed feelings.

    I won.

    But I couldn’t be happier.

Because I know that my victory means his defeat.

My growing up meant his growing old.

    My future means his past.

I walked over to him and gently tapped him on the shoulder.

    “Father.” I called softly.

He turned and looked at me with love and relief in his eyes.

“You’re growing up.” He said with a smile.

“Yes, I grew up.” I said with a nod.

“You’re good.” He said with a smile.

“Thanks for the compliment father.” I said with a smile.

“I’m relieved.” He said with a smile.

“I’m glad too.” I said with a smile.

We, father and son, looked at each other and smiled at everything.

“Are you hungry?” He asked, looking at me.

“Kind of.” I said with a nod.

“Come on, I’ll buy you dinner.” He said with a smile.

“Good.” I said with a nod.

We, father and son, walked out of the room together.

We arrived at Majestic Village and walked into a restaurant.

“Boss, two jugs of good wine, and a few good dishes.” Father said to the restaurant owner.

“Alright!” The owner of the restaurant answered and turned around to get ready.

“Father, have you ever been to Ma’s village before?” I asked curiously.

“No.” Father shook his head and said, “I’ve always been at the main altar of the Holy Religion and rarely come out.”

“So what made you think of coming to Majestic today?” I asked.

“I want to get out and walk.” Father said, “I want to see the outside world.”

He looked out the window at the traffic, curiosity and confusion in his eyes.

He was like a bird that had been trapped in a cage for too long, too long, and was suddenly released without knowing where to fly.

I looked at him with mixed feelings.

    I know, he’s old.

He was no longer the reigning Heavenly Demon Sect Master.

He has become an ordinary old man.

An old man who longs for freedom, warmth and companionship.

“Father, you can come out more often from now on.” I looked at my father and said.

“Good.” Father said with a nod.

The wine and food came up quickly.

We ate and chatted as father and son, and the atmosphere was very cordial.

“What have you been up to lately?” My father asked, looking at me.

“I’m forming an intelligence organization.” I said, looking at my father.

“Intelligence organizations?” My father looked at me and asked, “What do you need an intelligence organization for?”

“I want to control all intelligence in the entire Central Plains.” I said, looking at my father.

“You are quite ambitious.” My father looked at me and smiled.

“I’m just trying to protect the people I want to protect.” I said, looking at my father.

“Someone you want to protect?” My father looked at me and asked, “Who?”

“All the people I care about.” I said, looking at my father.

“Including me?” My father asked, looking at me.

“Sure.” I said with a nod.

My father looked at me with love and relief in his eyes.

He raised his glass, looked at me, and said, “Come on, let’s drink.”

“Good.” I raised my glass, clinked it with my father, and drank it down.

We father and son continued to drink and talk.

We talked about many, many things.

We talked about the past, the present, and the future.

We talked about many, many topics that we had never talked about before.

The gap between us, father and son, gradually disappeared.

The bond between us, father and son, gradually deepened.

    I’m glad.

Because I finally got along with my father like a normal father and son.

    This, I have always wanted.

Now, I’m finally getting that wish.

    I’m happy.

We drank late into the night as father and son.

I helped my drunken father back to his room.

“You’re growing up.” He looked at me and smiled.

“Yes, I grew up.” I said with a nod.

“You’re good.” He said with a smile.

“Thanks for the compliment father.” I said with a smile.

“I’m relieved.” He said with a smile.

“I’m glad too.” I said with a smile.

I tucked him in, then turned and left the room.

I walked out of the room and closed the door softly.

I stood outside the door, silently listening to the even breathing coming from inside.

My heart is filled with warmth and happiness.

I know that I have the most valuable thing in the world.

    That is, kinship.
