    Chapter Index

Sect Leader Windsky looked at the figure in front of him that was walking towards him, and his heart was filled with mixed feelings.

The prisoner casually picked up an unopened wine altar on the ground and tilted his head back to pour a few mouthfuls before handing it to Sect Leader Feng Tian. Sect Leader Feng Tian received the wine altar and took a few sips as well.

Perhaps it was long past time for them to sit face-to-face and have a drink, as they were doing now. What, exactly, had created such a deep divide between them?

“I put you in chains because I was afraid you would kill me. No, more accurately, I was afraid I would kill you.”

    “You won’t.”

“How do you know I won’t?”

“Because you never even thought about killing me.”

    “What?”

“All those reasons you gave before are things you’ve only recently figured out. Before that, you just habitually kept me prisoner here, like an object, an object you never wanted to discard.”

Sect Master Windsky was speechless because he knew that what the prisoner said was the truth. It wasn’t until he had recently become involved with Sword Wuji that he had realized that the chain had become an insurmountable chasm between them.

The prisoner, however, reassured him in turn, “It’s okay, everyone comes through this.”

“It’s okay? How is that okay? Because of this chain, you’re leaving me!”

“I did not leave because of this chain or because you imprisoned me here.”

“What was that for? Tell me!”

The reason given by the prisoner was something that the Windy Sky Sect Leader had never expected.

“Because I can’t count on anything but you.”

    “What?”

“Over the years, I have worked with you on all matters related to the martial arts in the Central Plains.”

    “Exactly.”

“But everything that has to do with that boy, I’ve never gotten right.”

“Didn’t you count on it? He said he would come, and he came; he said he would ask for divine things, and he actually asked for them.”

The prisoner shook his head, “None of that matters, what really matters is that over the years, I have received countless secret reports about the Heavenly Demon God Sect, and many of them are related to that boy. But every single time, he would surpass my expectations. I didn’t expect him to kill the Demon Monarch, I didn’t expect him to kill the Soul Regenerating Demon, I didn’t expect him to pull the Blood Heavenly Blade Demon over to him, I didn’t even expect him to bring all of his men to the banquet today, and I didn’t even expect him to ask you for my chains. How is this possible? Could it be that he really is that much smarter than me? I really can’t figure out what kind of god he is that he can do something so shocking? I must go and take a look with my own eyes to see exactly why I can’t figure him out, to see what kind of person he really is to have such heaven-defying qi. I really want to know the answer.”

This was the first time that the Windy Sky Sect Leader had ever heard a prisoner say so many words.

He knew that he could no longer hold him back.

“Are you really going to abandon me and go after that milquetoast brat?”

“No, I can go with you.”

“Are you crazy? What will those subordinates think of me? For the head of a sect to stoop to the level of a subordinate and follow a brat, will they still obey my leadership?”

“Then give it all up and we’ll go together.”

    “What did you say?”

“Pass the Patriarchate to your successor, and then we’ll leave here together for a whole new life.”

Countless thoughts flashed through Sect Leader Windsky’s mind, but he ultimately lost to the feeling of powerlessness in his heart.

“If I lose my identity as the ‘Windy Sky Sect Leader’, will you still have me in your sights?”

“When you unload the identity of ‘Windy Sky Sect Leader’, you will become a real person. You have been bound by this identity for too long, your life should have been more exciting, you could have lived more freely. It’s not just me that’s imprisoned, it’s also yourself.”

“What exactly are you trying to say?” Sect Master Windsky violently shattered the wine altar in his hand on the ground.

“Are you asking me to give up the position of Sect Leader? To give up the power to call the shots? Give up this life of fine clothes and food? Give up this harem of three thousand beauties?”

    “Are you really happy?”

“Of course I’m happy! Well, even if it’s not that happy, so what? Could it be that by giving it all up, I could be truly happy? Could it be that I abdicate and happiness will come to me on its own?”

“I don’t know, that’s something you need to find out for yourself.”

“You’re ruining me! You’re pushing me into the fire!”

    “Maybe.”

    “I’ll kill you!”

    “It’s too late.”

    “What?”

“If you wanted to kill me, you should have done it before that boy came. Now that he has unchained me for you, what will he think if you kill me? He’ll blame himself, he’ll feel guilty, and eventually, that guilt will turn into hatred for you. At that point, you’ll really be trapped outside the plug forever. For your own sake, you shouldn’t kill me either.”

    “Shit!”

“This is fate, accept the reality.”

“Destiny? Don’t mention fate to me! How in the world can there be such an unjust fate?”

“You are the Wind Sky Sect Master, the king who stands tall and rules over the martial arts forests outside of Seychelles, what qualifications do you have to talk about the word ‘injustice’?”

Sect Master Windsky was silent for a long time before he finally let out a long sigh, “I’ve lost, I’ve lost to you eloquent fellows. You go.”

    This time, he meant it.

He had completely given up on prisoners.

“Go away, go live the life you want to live, go pursue your so-called freedom. I won’t stop you anymore, go away, go away, I’m sick of you being in the way.”

With a trembling hand, Sect Leader Windsky unlocked the chains on the prisoner.

Just then, the prisoner suddenly pulled out a key from his pocket and placed it in front of Sect Leader Windsky. To his surprise, this key, turned out to be exactly the same as the one that opened his chains.

“What is this? Does it mean …… this is the key to my chains?”

The prisoner nodded. Sect Leader Feng Tian was dumbfounded, the key from before had been taken away by Sword Wuji’s subordinates along with the chains, how could there still be another one?

“It’s one I copied a couple years ago.”

“How did you do it? And why didn’t you escape earlier?”

The prisoner did not answer his question.

“Since you were able to open the chains a long time ago, why didn’t you kill me? You obviously had countless chances to kill me, so why didn’t you do it?”

“Why would I kill you? Like you don’t have a reason to kill me. Didn’t you say so? The person who knows you best in this world is me, and so do I.”

Hearing these words, it was as if Sect Leader Windsky’s heart was clenched hard by a large invisible hand, and his eyes suddenly became moist.

Yeah, that’s why he’s so sad and so upset.

Sect Master Feng Tian looked at the key in his hand and said with a bitter smile, “You happened to bring out the key at this time, are you trying to make me lose?”

The prisoner didn’t speak, but instead bowed deeply to Sect Leader Windsky and said in an unprecedentedly respectful tone, “No, you didn’t lose, you didn’t kill me and let me leave, that’s already enough for me. The reason why I didn’t run away, the reason why I didn’t kill you, is perhaps because, I have developed feelings for you as well. Although you are short-tempered, you have a kind heart, although you are bossy, you also have a tender side. Today you let me go, this favor, I will never forget. The green mountains will not change, the green water will flow forever, we will meet again.”

With that, the prisoner walked out of the room without looking back.

Sect Master Windy Sky looked at the empty room with mixed feelings in his heart as he slammed his fist on the ground and let out a roar.

He felt both relief and loss; relief and emptiness; relief and sadness.
